Edel & David’s Castlemartyr Resort Wedding
Edel & David’s Castlemartyr Resort Wedding Photographer David Clynch LIPPVA Cork
I was really looking forward to Edel and David’s Castlemartyr Resort wedding, not just because I love Castlemartyr, but the couple themselves were so enthusiastic about their day and having their moments captured in a fun, relaxed way.
Having met the couple twice before their big day I knew they were going to be comfortable on the day with me photographing them.
The couple had seen weddings I had photographed at Castlemartyr so they knew I would capture the best photographs with stunning backdrops of the ruins, river walk and grounds.
My day started with bridal preparations at Edel’s parents house in Watergrasshill, Cork and everyone immediately made me feel welcome. I really enjoyed working alongside Eamon from Aisling Productions who was videoing the days events.
Edel and her bridesmaids were having their hair transformed by Dawn from the Hairy Fairy Hair Salon and made even more beautiful by Charlotte O’Mahony Make Up Artist.
The pageboy and flowergirls added a great sense of fun to the preparations and a fry-up helped ready the bridal party for the day.
The nerves were nowhere to be seen as Edel opened her gift of a framed print from David of where the couple got engaged. The bride looked stunning in her mother’s dress and her bridesmaids looked so glamorous in the gardens of her parent’s home.
When I met David and his groomsmen they looked great in their Tom Murphy Menswear suits and were happy to be photographed as were all his family. The guests were in great form as they waited for the bride’s arrival. Edel and her dad arrived in a vintage car from The Limo Company.
Watergrasshill Church, Cork looked amazing with beautiful floral displays from The Village Florist Castlemartyr and the couple looked so happy as they exchanged their vows.
Edel and David then travelled in style to Castlemartyr Resort. They had champagne on the red carpet before taking time for some family and bridal party photographs near the ruins. They strolled hand in hand across the grass, danced by the ruins before walking along the river walk, laughing and joking throughout.
Edel is from Cork and David is from Limerick and the speeches recounted the story of how the couple met in Hyannis, Massachusetts while on J1 visas. They cycled past each other every day and David had a fetching pink Jansport backpack on his back and Edel smiled at him one day and he was delighted thinking she liked him. They met later on a night out and it turns out she had been smiling at the bag and not at David.
The couple returned to Hyannis where they got engaged and the framed print David gave Edel on the morning of the wedding was a drawing of the place where they got engaged. David presented Edel with the same pink Jansport bag during the speeches which went down a storm, especially when he showed off the bag for effect. The wedding cake from Cherub Couture was a beach themed cake decorated with bicycles and of course a pink Jansport backpack!
The couple and guests danced and partied until late into the night to the music of The Aristocrats Wedding Band Cork. They were such as fun couple to photograph as they had a giddiness which was contagious and the guests were great fun too. There was a dance off between the women and men, the men were victorious and David was given the bumps in celebration.
